When a tooth cannot be saved, extraction (removal) of the tooth may be the only course of treatment. A x-ray allows Dr. Bradley to see a complete picture of the tooth or jaw. This is a great diagnostic tool to evaluate the bone for possible abscess, cysts, or tumors.
Most minor surgeries are performed at our office, but more complicated extractions Dr. Bradley will refer to a maxillofacial surgeon.
Smoking, vigorous brushing and rinsing, and drinking liquids through straws are discouraged during the post-operative period because they hinder healing and may cause the wound to open. Cold compresses applied to the outside cheek near the extraction area can help reduce any swelling and promote faster healing.
